How do I get rid of shine on my bald head?
Getting rid of the shine on your head is not always a straightforward process. And it definitely doesn’t mean you should be using any product or shampoo to clean your head. Many factors can contribute to shine, and it can be a delicate process between getting rid of the shine and not drying out the scalp. And if you just got scalp micropigmentation, you may be looking to get rid of that excess shine to make your SMP treatment really pop!
Products are available that are made just for getting rid of shine on your scalp, such as the Folicule Mattifying Moisturizer or the Folicule Anti-Shine primer.

What causes shine on your bald head?
Shine on your bald head is typically caused by excess oil. Scientifically known as sebum, oil is produced by sebaceous glands embedded next to hair follicles in the scalp. Even if you’re bald, you still have sebaceous glands and hair follicles (although they’re shrunken in size).
Sebum mixes with fatty compounds called lipids and serves different purposes. The oil on the scalp helps lubricate the skin, creates a protective layer, and retains moisture on the skin’s surface. While the functions of sebum are important, the excess oil on the scalp can create a slick appearance.
Excess oil on the scalp can also clog the pores on the scalp and lead to acne. In severe cases, painful cysts and scarring can develop from too much oil on the scalp.
The amount of oil produced on the scalp can vary from person to person. Some people produce barely any oil while others produce a lot of it. Unfortunately, if you’re part of the group of men who produce a lot of oil on the scalp, there’s not much you can do to stop it. Your best bet is to use products that help reduce the oil.
How can you get rid of the shine on your bald head?
Without any hair on a bald head, there’s nothing to absorb the excess oil. The oil can then remain on the scalp, causing the shine that many men prefer not to have.
You can get rid of the shine by cleaning the scalp with a good cleanser or gentle shampoo made specifically for oily skin on bald heads. A good product can wash away the oil and dirt on the scalp to prevent shine and possible acne.
Even though you don’t have a full head of hair, you still need to use a shampoo or cleanser to wash the scalp. After using a shampoo or cleanser, you can use a moisturizer to hydrate the skin of the scalp. However, you should avoid lotions, creams, or gel products that contain oil-based ingredients, which can worsen an already oily scalp.
What are the best products to get rid of shine?
Using a gentle shampoo or cleanser is the first step to getting rid of shine, you’ll want to choose a product that doesn’t dry out the scalp. Many shampoos and cleansers contain harsh chemicals, like sulfates and parabens, that can dry out the scalp and lead to irritation or redness.
The Folicule Scalp Cleanser contains natural ingredients to gently wash away excess oil and keep the scalp clean. It contains Tea Tree Oil, Hemp seed, and Jojoba seed oil to wash the scalp without causing irritation. This scalp cleanser also contains other ingredients like Olive Fruit Oil, which is rich in antioxidants and vitamins.
After cleansing the scalp, you’ll want to use a good moisturizer to replace the moisture that may have been lost from getting rid of excess oil.
The Folicule Mattifying Moisturizer contains natural ingredients that gently hydrate the skin and absorb excess oil. For example, it contains willow bark extract, which absorbs excess oil, soothes the scalp, and locks in moisture. The Folicule Anti-Shine primer uses Enantia Chlorantha Bark Extract to control shine and excess oil on the scalp. That way you’re left with a smooth, matte look on the scalp.
